Here is Your Change Mam

There must be a gazillion self help books written on the subject of change. Sometimes you are forced to read the more ridiculous one’s in the work place. Even the Dalai Lama weighs in on the subject. As I taped the final box shut for my move, I sat down on the floor (OK it was more like a collapse) and took a few minutes to just sit and contemplate.

I am embarking on a lot of change by selling my house and moving back east with no job in sight. The easy thing to do would have been to simply stay here, pay down my mortgage, and refinance the small amount left over. I sort of had one of those ah ha moments one usually has only after a few beers. The answer to coping with change is quite simple. I am going to save you a lot of reading time by boiling it down to the following.

You never have to react to change if you are the force for change. When you get comfortable with your life or work that comfort leads to complacency. That in turn will unleash some hidden force of nature causing change in your life when you least expect it or want it. On the other hand, if you keep making changes in your life you will be in control of change. It is a hell of a lot more fun to initiate change than have change happen to you. Nothing stays the same and life does not stay still. I mean let’s face it we are actually hurtling through space at an alarming speed (over 66,000 mph, I looked it up). You hear business speak about who is on the bus and who needs to get off the bus. I do not intend to grab any seat on the bus. I am claiming the driver’s seat and at every intersection I get to decide to turn left, right, or go straight ahead
